Cosgrove Festival 1993

Festival is top venture

A VILLAGE festival being held this weekend has scooped the top award in this year's Village Venture competition.
The organisers of Cosgrove Festival won £475 after coming joint first with Finedon Point Coffee Bar.
The competition, which aims to encourage community initiatives, saw 38 entries from the Northamptonshire area.
The idea of the festival followed a decision by various groups in Cosgrove to have one large fundraising event in 1993
Using the bicentenary celebrations of the Grand Union Canal as a focus, the fesival has been accepted by the British Waterways as part of thecanal 200 programme.
Planning for the festival began in May last year and developed to involve every group in the village, as well as village industries. Events include a gardens competition and a play in which Paulerspury Players and Deanshanger Schools are involved.

Hundreds of local people flocked to the festival - which featured everything from dragon boat racing to hot air ballon rides.
